Product Description
Standard lens featuring superb quality and portability. Two high-refraction lens elements and new Gaussian optics eliminate astigmatism and suppress astigmatic difference. Crisp images with little flare are obtained even at the maximum aperture.

Amazon.com Product Description
The 50mm f/1.4 standard lens is a terrific choice for both casual and professional photographers. The lens is outfitted with two high-refraction lens elements and new Gaussian optics, which combine to eliminate astigmatism and suppress astigmatic difference. As a result, the lens obtains crisp images with little flare even at the maximum aperture. The lens's f/1.4 speed, meanwhile, is perfect for available-light shooting. And as a bonus, this lens is the only lens in the EF system to offer an extra-small Micro Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) while still providing a full-time manual focusing option. Other features include a close focusing distance of 1.5 feet, a 58mm filter size, and a one-year warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Great large apeture lens!   September 2, 2010
buck5150
The Canon f/1.4 lens is definetly worth the money. Don't get the cheap f/1.8 lens if you want really nice quality photos. Used it today for the first time at a professional photo shoot and it performed with excellent results...especially in darker areas. The f1/4 setting really sucks in the light and lets you get so very cool photos with that ultra soft, blurred background. I would reccomend this lens to anyone serious about photography...professional or hobbyist.

I don't think you need the over the top, super expensive lenses to get good photos. A naturally good eye for photography will always come through in your work. You can see my photo work at [...]

5 out of 5 stars Excellent upgrade   August 30, 2010
Christopher Beaugrand (American Canyon, CA United States)
I have been using the Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens for about 2 years now and have been happy with the picture quality. However, as many people describe, that lens tends to self-destruct, even with careful handling. Instead of replacing it with another, I decided to upgrade to this guy - and I'm glad that I did.

Others have reviewed the features and advantages of this lens. The only thing I'd like to add is that the USM makes a bigger difference than you might think if you've never used a lens with a USM/HSM before. Focus is very fast and silent.

I don't regret starting with the 50mm 1.8 II - it reassured me that having a prime lens in my pack was worth it. I would say that this lens is on my camera about 1/4 of the time, but it's well worth having if you take portraits of people or pets.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT LENS FOR THE PRICE   August 27, 2010
Ashley Prestia (GLENDALE, AZ, US)
Absolutely love this lens. My husband and I have been starting out our photography buisness and I would recommend this lens to anyone. I owned the cannon 1.8 50mm prior but the quality of this one is so much better. When I received it its body looks very study and a nice build. The pictures come out crisp and clear, gorgeous circular bokeh instead of the cheap octagon bokeh my older lens produced. Would recommend this to anyone!
